The Andhra Pradesh government is taking new steps to support its leather industry by setting up Lidcap stalls at major tourist destinations across the state. The move aims to promote locally made leather products and give artisans better access to markets.
Tourism, culture and cinematography minister Kandula Durgesh announced the plan during Lidcap Day celebrations held in Guntur on 4 October 2025. He said the initiative will help local workers showcase their craftsmanship to a wider audience and strengthen the rural economy.
Durgesh highlighted that the state’s leather industry has enough potential to compete with multinational brands if given the right support.
He thanked chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu for providing skill training to the youth and urged workers to stay updated with modern market trends and new designs.
The minister suggested that Lidcap should go beyond footwear and explore manufacturing leather accessories like bags and belts to expand its product portfolio.
He also called for increased funding from both the state and central governments to help institutions like Lidcap focus on product innovation and skill development.
Durgesh assured that he would personally take up the matter with the chief minister to secure more financial support for the leather sector.
During the event, he also inaugurated CBN Raksha Kendras and handed out certificates to youth who successfully completed training programs under Lidcap.
