For goat skin, the price has also gone up by Tk 2 (~US$0.20). The new rate for goat skin is now Tk 22-27 per square feet (~US$0.18-0.22). Salt-applied goat skin prices are set at Tk 20-22 (~US$0.16-0.18).
Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin announced these updates during a press briefing at Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday.
The government has also set a minimum price for cowhide at Tk 1,350 (~US$11.06) per piece in Dhaka and Tk 1,150 (~US$9.41) outside the city.
Last year, the cowhide price was Tk 60-65 (~US$0.49-0.53) in Dhaka but lower outside the capital at Tk 50-55 (~US$0.41-0.45). Goat hide prices last year were Tk 20-25 (~US$0.16-0.20) per square feet. The per-piece price for cowhide was Tk 1,200 (~US$9.83) in Dhaka and Tk 1,000 (~US$8.19) outside Dhaka.
The Commerce Adviser shared that district officials have been told to preserve rawhides for at least 15 days after Eid. This is to prevent waste and maintain quality.
A decision has been made to relax export rules for rawhide and wet blue leather for three months. Rawhides will also be barred from entering Dhaka for the first 10 days after Eid.
The government is also focusing on better local preservation and smooth cattle trading operations. The Bangladesh Police will provide continuous service through their helpline 999 to manage hide collection and animal transport safely.
A special control cell will be formed by the Ministry of Commerce to monitor the situation closely and ensure smooth operations.
