Brazil Leather Exports Total $83.4 Million in June with 11.9% Drop in First Half of 2025

Brazil exported hides and skins worth $83.4 million in June 2025, down 13.7% from the previous month and 17.9% lower than June last year.

This article is based on data released by SECEX (Secretariat of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services) and analyzed by CICB.

In terms of quantity, 13.4 million square meters and 40.3 thousand tons were exported. That’s a drop of 14.8% in area and 17.6% in weight compared to June 2024. Even compared to May 2025, volumes were lower by around 10%.

For the first half of 2025, total leather exports stood at $572.4 million. This is 11.9% less than the same period last year. The total area exported dropped by 4.9%, but weight increased slightly by 2.9%.

China remains the top destination for Brazilian leather, though numbers are slipping. It accounted for 29.6% of the export value and 43.7% of the area. While value dropped by 12.7%, volume to China actually rose by 3.6%.

The United States held second place with 13.6% of export value and 6.9% of area. Both figures are down by 10.6% in value and 3.4% in area.

Italy is third on the list with 12.3% of value and 14.3% of area. The country saw a 13.2% drop in value and a 3% dip in area.

Among the top 10 destinations, South Korea and Spain were the only countries showing strong growth. Leather exports to South Korea jumped by over 31% in value and 37% in area.

Spain surged to the 10th position with almost double the export value and an 80% increase in area.

Wet blue leather made up 25.9% of export value and 53.9% of the area. However, its export value fell by 25.3%.

Split wet blue and crust leather also saw declines in both value and volume.

Finished leather, which is the most valuable category, accounted for nearly half of the export value. It saw a small decline in value but a slight rise in area exported.

Salted hides were a surprise. They registered the highest growth 83.1% in value and 60.9% in weight in the first half. But June marked the lowest month for this category.
