Bridge of Weir and Piston Interiors Launch Complete Leather Interior Service for US Cars

Bridge of Weir, a leading supplier of fine automotive leather, is celebrating 20 years of partnership with US manufacturer Piston Interiors by launching a new complete leather interior solution for American car brands.

The collaboration began in 2005 when Piston Interiors handled cutting and trimming of Bridge of Weir leather for US car companies at a facility in Mexico.

Over the years the partnership has expanded to a dedicated Mexican facility and a wider range of interior services for North American automotive customers.

Today, Piston Interiors’ headquarters in Pontiac Michigan hosts a dedicated Bridge of Weir team and a showroom where designers can experience the latest leather innovations.

The new service covers every step of the interior production process including design, feasibility studies, material selection, custom colours and finishes, cutting, sewing, perforating, laminating, quilting, laser etching, trimming, testing, validation, production, final finish and delivery.

The collaboration allows Bridge of Weir and Piston Interiors to deliver fully finished interiors using premium Scottish leather, from a single seat to a complete vehicle interior.

The announcement coincides with 20 years of their partnership and Bridge of Weir’s 120th anniversary. The company has a long history with US brands, starting with Ford’s Model T in 1911 and Lincoln’s Continental Mark II in 1956.

Bridge of Weir leather continues to feature in Lincoln models including the Navigator and other luxury cars such as the second-generation Ford GT and the Lucid Air electric car.

“Bridge of Weir has a long history of supplying the world’s most iconic and important cars. Our relationship with US automotive makers goes back all the way to the Model T Ford and in our 120th anniversary year we are delighted to be celebrating another milestone with Piston Interiors. They are a remarkable US business with which Bridge of Weir has clicked from day one. They have been crucial to our offering to US car makers over the last two decades and this new complete interior service is an example of just how productive two like-minded businesses can become, not just meeting the needs of US auto brands but exceeding them.”

– James Muirhead, CCO of Bridge of Weir, said

“The Piston Interiors and Bridge of Weir relationship has steadily grown over the last 20 years. There’s a natural synergy between our teams when it comes to creativity and shared values and we’re excited to now offer a complete service to our customers. Whether it starts with a sketch or a 3D model, we can take a concept and carry it all the way through to production. With our deep expertise in cut-and-sew and craftsmanship, combined with Bridge of Weir’s premium leather, OEMs can trust us to deliver high-quality interiors from start to finish. And honestly, even after all this time, we feel like we’re just getting started – there’s so much more potential ahead.”

– Danielle Momany, Director of New Business Development, Piston Interiors, said

This new service marks a major step for US automotive interiors combining decades of expertise with premium materials to meet growing demand for luxury leather interiors.
