According to official data released by the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA), China’s footwear industry saw a decline in sales and trade in 2025, with key enterprises reporting lower revenue and exports across global markets. The data covers performance across footwear including leather shoe segments in China.
The footwear industry in China reported a 15.4% drop in sales revenue from key enterprises in 2025 compared to the previous year.
Footwear exports reached 9.02 billion pairs, down by 2.0% in volume. In value terms, exports stood at $41.55 billion, showing a sharper fall of 11.3%.
Imports also declined during the same period. China imported 170 million pairs of footwear, marking a 15.5% drop in quantity. The total import value stood at $5.43 billion, down by 9.0%.
The leather shoes segment within the footwear industry recorded an even steeper decline.
Sales revenue of key leather shoe enterprises in China dropped by 19.3% year-on-year.
Exports of leather shoes reached 520 million pairs, down by 5.7% in volume. The export value was $7.22 billion, falling by 11.6%.
Imports of leather shoes also saw a significant drop. The quantity stood at 53.5 million pairs, down by 22.9%. The import value was $2.46 billion, declining by 16.9%.
The broader leather industry also saw a decline. China’s total exports of leather, footwear, leather garments, bags and cases fell to $82.72 billion, down 10.9%, while imports dropped 10.2% to $15.53 billion in 2025.
