China Leather Exports Fall 10.5% to $75.06 Billion in First 11 Months of 2025

According to official data released by the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) from January to November 2025, the first 11 months 2025 the sales revenue of key leather enterprises in China fell by 9.9% compared to last year.

Overall export value of the Chinese leather industry which also includes leather, footwear, leather garments, bags and cases stood at $75.06 billion in the first 11 months of 2025 which is a drop of 10.5%.

Imports also declined to $14.06 billion down by 11.0%.

The tanning sector followed the same trend. Sales revenue of key tanneries reached 47 billion RMB from January to November 2025. This marks a year on year fall of 9.3%.

The footwear industry faced deeper pressure. Exports reached 8.18 billion pairs but fell by 1.3% in volume. Export value declined sharply to $37.64 billion down by 10.7%. Imports fell to 0.16 billion pairs valued at $4.92 billion.

Leather shoes were hit harder. Exports dropped to 470 million pairs valued at $6.59 billion. Imports fell sharply to 48.4 million pairs with value down to $2.22 billion.

The leather garment segment showed mixed signals. Exports rose slightly to $120 million up by 2.6%. Imports also increased marginally to $110 million

Bags and cases makers also felt the slowdown. Exports fell to $27.13 billion down by 13.5%. Imports declined to $4.72 billion.
