According to official data released by the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) the country’s footwear sector posted mixed results in the first half of 2025. The update follows CLIA’s earlier report Chinese Leather Industry Exports Drop 7.8% to $43.2 Billion in First Half of 2025
Key footwear enterprises recorded sales revenue of more than RMB 260 billion, a modest 0.6% rise compared with the same period last year.
However production of leather shoes slipped to 1.23 billion pairs, down 3.2% year-on-year.
Exports of footwear products reached 4.50 billion pairs valued at $21.70 billion. This marked a 0.3% drop in quantity and a 7.2% fall in value compared with last year.
Imports totaled 90 million pairs worth $2.64 billion, down 11.6% in quantity and 9.7% in value.
Within this segment exports of leather shoes stood at 250 million pairs valued at $3.59 billion. While the number of pairs shipped grew slightly by 0.3% their value slipped 4.5%.
Imports of leather shoes fell more sharply to 25 million pairs valued at $1.12 billion, down 20.8% in quantity and 18.8% in value year-on-year.
