The Council for Leather Exports has begun inviting applications for the post of Executive Director in Chennai. The role is a key leadership position that will guide India’s leather export strategy at a time when global markets are shifting fast.
The post carries one vacancy with a Level 12 pay scale under the 7th CPC. CLE will follow a selection process that considers internal staff, government officers on deputation and open market applicants.
A final decision will be made by the Committee of Administration after interviews and background assessment.
For open market candidates the age cap is 45 years as of 1 January of the recruitment year. Applicants must hold a postgraduate degree in economics or commerce or engineering or business administration.
They also need at least 15 years of senior level experience in trade promotion or export organizations or public sector or private sector companies or management institutes or consultancy bodies or relevant government departments.
CLE is also looking for strong understanding of global trade policy including WTO rules.
The council prefers candidates with previous experience in promoting Indian exports in Europe and the USA plus exposure to secretarial and financial management in large bodies.
Those selected from the open market will be appointed on a 3 year contract with a one year probation. The council has the right to end the contract with one month notice if performance falls short.
For deputation applicants the upper age limit is 56 years. They need five years of regular service in Level 11 grade pay in Central or State Government bodies.
Deputation will run for 3 years and can be extended with approvals but not beyond 7 years. If performance is unsatisfactory officers can be reverted to their parent cadre.
Internal candidates of CLE with 5 years in Level 11 can also apply but only through the internal route. Their tenure will be 3 years with possible extension until retirement age.
Applications must be emailed to chairman@cleindia.com by 15 December 2025. Hard copies must also be sent to the Chairman at the CLE office in Nungambakkam Chennai with the envelope marked as APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR. Late or incomplete applications will be rejected.
