Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli visited Robbeki Leather City to check the major overhaul of the leather tanning technology center that falls under the Ministry of Industry.
His visit signals how serious the government is about turning Robbeki into a global name in leather production.
Madbouli was joined by Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development Kamel El Wazir and several senior officials.
El Wazir explained that the upgraded center will support small manufacturers in Robbeki by giving them access to modern tanning machines and hands-on technical training guided by Italian experts.
The goal is simple, prepare skilled young workers who can run advanced equipment with confidence.
The center is being redesigned to improve production quality so Egypt can boost leather exports and attract both local and foreign investors.
Officials want Robbeki to become a specialized global city for high quality leather goods.
During the tour Madbouli reviewed progress on the rehabilitation plan. The government has invested EGP50 million (~USD 1.05 Million) into the upgrade along with a 6 million Euro grant from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.
This grant pays for new equipment, staff training in Italy and technical help to build and promote the Made in Robbeki brand in global markets.
The center was first set up in 2007 and played an important role when tanneries were moved out of Ain El Sira.
After the upgrade it will shift to a public private partnership model with its technical and financial operations handled by private firm Al Robbeki for Tanning Technology.
In short the renewed center is expected to raise skills improve product quality and help position Egypt as a serious player in global leather manufacturing.
