FDDI Marks Foundation Day Sets Vision 2030 Roadmap

The Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) marked its Foundation Day with an Industry Conclave bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, academicians, alumni, students and partners from footwear, leather, fashion and allied sectors on 14 January 2026.

The event also acted as the curtain raiser for FDDI’s upcoming milestone of 40 Years of Excellence which will be celebrated through year-long activities.

Founded in 1986 FDDI has grown under the guidance of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.

The institute showcased its journey from a training body to a nationally important institution with a growing global presence.

On the same day FDDI unveiled Vision 2030 which focuses on innovation-led education, sustainability, entrepreneurship, deep industry integration and global competitiveness.

He added that close collaboration with DPIIT and industry partners will remain key for strengthening skills, innovation and nation building.

A talk show session followed with FDDI leadership, alumni and senior industry representatives discussing future skill needs emerging trends and the growing importance of industry-academia collaboration.

The event also included the prize distribution ceremony of the CBSE national-level design competition held with FDDI recognising young student talent from across India.

An industry advisory roundtable saw senior leaders discuss workforce development innovation and global competitiveness.

During this session FDDI launched its Industry Membership Programme to build long-term structured engagement with companies.

Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) were also exchanged to strengthen cooperation in education, research, skilling and technology transfer in line with DPIIT’s industrial vision.

Adding a cultural touch FDDI students presented a fashion show themed Traditional Khadi blending handspun heritage with modern design while promoting sustainability and Vocal for Local.
