Fire Breaks Out at Leather Godown in Ambur

A sudden fire broke out at a leather godown in Thuthipet, Ambur on Sunday 26 October 2025 evening.

The storage unit is owned by Akbar Basha from the Bangi Shop area. He has been operating the leather godown for over 10 years. Since it was Sunday, the unit was closed when the incident happened.

Around 6.30 pm, thick smoke and flames were seen rising from the locked warehouse. Locals immediately alerted the Umarabad police and the fire and rescue department.

Firefighters from Ambur and Vaniyambadi rushed to the spot and battled the blaze for nearly an hour before bringing it under control.

Preliminary reports suggest that leather stock worth around Rs 4 lakh was completely destroyed in the fire. The entire area was covered in smoke for several hours, causing panic among nearby residents.

Police from the Umarabad station have registered a case and begun an investigation to find out the cause of the fire.
