In a significant move toward bolstering the Indian leather industry, the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the Indian Leather Products Association (ILPA) have come together for a strategic partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This landmark agreement sets the stage for collaborative endeavors aimed at nurturing the growth of the leather sector and cultivating an environment conducive to business expansion.
The signing of the MoU marks the inception of the ICC Leather Committee, dedicated to championing the interests of the dynamic leather industry. Additionally, the establishment of the ICC Expert Committee on Leather signals a commitment to executing proactive initiatives that will propel the Indian Leather Sector forward. Among the envisioned efforts are international delegations and the development of a supportive ecosystem to fortify the sector’s competitiveness on a global scale.
Addressing the gathering, Md Azhar, Senior Vice President of ILPA, expressed optimism about the partnership’s potential to create a vibrant forum for policy advocacy and economic cooperation. He emphasized the significance of organizing events beneficial to members and the broader leather product industry.
Echoing these sentiments, Mr. Ameya Prabhu, President of ICC, highlighted the tangible benefits of the collaboration, particularly in terms of market access and product exportation. Through the MoU, ILPA members gain privileged access to ICC’s extensive network, comprising 15 overseas chapters, thereby amplifying their reach in international markets.
Shri Anurag Srivastav, Partner Industry Promotion at PwC and a former Indian Administrative Officer in West Bengal, shed light on sustainable practices within the leather sector. His insights underscored the importance of adopting environmentally responsible approaches to ensure the industry’s long-term viability.
Mr. Naresh Juneja, Chairman of the ICC National Expert Committee on Leather, emphasized the MoU’s role in fostering networking opportunities and building trust among stakeholders.
