Italian Leather Maker Gruppo Mastrotto Acquires Majority Stake in Coindu

Gruppo Mastrotto S.p.A., a global leader in leather production, has acquired a majority stake in Coindu – Componentes Para A Indústria Automóvel, S.A., a Portugal-based company specializing in high-quality automotive interiors.

This acquisition is part of Gruppo Mastrotto’s strategy to strengthen its position in the global automotive sector by expanding its product offerings and integrating vertically within the industry.

Coindu, established in 1988, has carved a niche for itself in the automotive industry by designing and manufacturing leather and textile interior components, such as automotive seat covers and decorative interior parts.

The company is known for its differentiated detailing and innovative production processes, which have made it a trusted supplier for major automotive brands worldwide.

With decades of expertise in automotive interiors, Coindu’s strength lies in its ability to combine quality with advanced manufacturing techniques, making it a perfect fit for Gruppo Mastrotto’s long-term growth plans.

Founded in Italy in 1958, Gruppo Mastrotto is a major player in the global leather industry, providing high-quality leather solutions for sectors such as automotive, fashion, and interiors.

By acquiring a majority stake in Coindu, Gruppo Mastrotto aims to enhance its vertical integration in the automotive sector.

This move is expected to provide end-to-end solutions, from leather production to the final assembly of interior components, allowing Gruppo Mastrotto to serve the luxury automotive market more effectively.

This acquisition will allow the company to strengthen its competitive edge globally, positioning it as a one-stop solution provider for premium automotive interiors.

While Coindu will now become part of this industry-leading leather group, the Gomes family, which has long managed the company, will retain a minority stake.

Additionally, Coindu’s current CEO, Antonio Candido, will continue to lead the company, ensuring continuity in its strategic direction.

“This acquisition aligns perfectly with our growth strategy, enabling us to unlock synergies in both revenue generation and cost efficiencies. By merging our expertise with Coindu’s, we will enhance our value proposition across the automotive sector and deliver superior solutions for our customers.”

Chiara Mastrotto, President of Gruppo Mastrotto

“This collaboration will allow us to offer integrated services that are more responsive to market demands, while also leveraging Gruppo Mastrotto’s strong global network. Coindu will continue to operate with its unique production strategies and retain market independence, all while benefiting from this valuable partnership.”

Antonio Candido, CEO of Coindu

In conclusion, this acquisition marks a significant milestone for both Gruppo Mastrotto and Coindu. By combining their respective expertise in leather production and automotive interiors, the companies are well-positioned to dominate the luxury automotive sector, delivering innovative and high-quality interior solutions. As Gruppo Mastrotto continues its push for vertical integration, this partnership with Coindu is expected to strengthen its market presence and create new growth opportunities across global markets.
