Jordan’s leather and garment sector has reached a major milestone this year. According to the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI), the industry exported products to nearly 90 countries, generating $2.4 billion in revenue. That’s a 24% increase compared to 2023 and marks the sector’s best performance since 2010.
This success means the sector now makes up 21% of all industrial exports from Jordan.
A big reason behind this growth is increasing demand from the United States. Right now, about 80% of all Jordanian leather and garment exports go to the US.
At the same time, exports to countries like the Netherlands and Belgium are also growing.
In the last ten years, investments in the industry have jumped by 150% from $420 million to over $1 billion. The number of factories and businesses has also grown.
There are now more than 1,000 active enterprises compared to just 600 at the end of the last decade.
Jordan’s Economic Modernisation Vision also puts this sector in a leading role. The government plans to grow the sector’s value-added output by 10% each year.
By 2033, they want to reach $1.8 billion in added value, $8.8 billion in total production, and attract $3.1 billion in new investments.
The plan also expects the leather and garment industry to help create 149,000 of the one million new jobs the country aims to generate for Jordanians. Right now, the sector employs around 96,000 people, and 31% of them are local citizens.
