Lagos Leather Fair 2025 Ends on a High Note as Africa’s Leather Industry Steps Into the Future

Lagos Leather Fair 2025 has officially concluded, marking a major milestone for Africa’s growing leather industry.

Held at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Victoria Island, the 8th edition brought together designers, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders from across the continent under the theme Designing for Tomorrow.

Over two days, LLF proved it is more than just a fair it is now a movement driving creativity, business, and innovation in African leather.

Since its first edition in 2017, LLF has grown into a year-round initiative. It focuses on solving key issues like raw material access, financing, global market access, and adopting new technology.

The fair began with a private preview, followed by a formal opening from Toke Benson-Awoyinka, Lagos State’s Commissioner for Arts and Tourism. She welcomed guests and reaffirmed government support for the creative economy.

The second day turned to business strategies. Olugbenga Ogunbowale, also known as the Grant Master, led a workshop on winning grants. He pointed out the $331 billion funding gap for African SMEs and the continent’s low share of global creative financing.

Visitors also enjoyed hands-on experiences. The Maker’s Bench allowed attendees to learn leathercraft basics, and the Leather Installation curated by Ademuson showed the material’s versatility.

The fair ended with the LLF Awards, recognizing leaders in design and innovation. Some of the major winners were:

  • Nichole by Haguanna – Artisanal Craftsmanship Award
  • Pie Leather Craft – Most Innovative Product
  • St. Davids – Brand of the Year
  • Maliko Studios – Best Digital Presence
  • Ora Lagos – Emerging Designer of the Year

Wema Bank also awarded three leather entrepreneurs ₦1,000,000 each to support their businesses.

Throughout the event, visitors browsed unique leather products, met brand founders, and witnessed fashion presentations celebrating the spirit of African design.

In her closing remarks, Femi Olayebi, the fair’s founder, said:

“LLF has grown from a small spark to a full-blown movement. We are shaping a future for African leather that is bold, brilliant, and ours.”
