Zimbabwe’s leather industry is taking a major step toward modernization. Industry leaders and government officials are urging players in the sector to adopt advanced technologies like Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to enhance product quality and global competitiveness.
The call came during the official opening of the CAD Training for Lead Designers at the Leather Institute of Zimbabwe (LIZ) in Bulawayo. The training brings together ten talented designers and entrepreneurs from across the country for intensive upskilling.
Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Judith Ncube highlighted that the program supports Zimbabwe’s economic vision and national growth goals.
“This training programme is not merely a workshop, it is a critical step towards realising the goals of our National Development Strategy 1 and 2, fulfilling the vision of President Mnangagwa for Zimbabwe to be an Upper Middle-Income Economy by 2030.”

Minister Ncube praised LIZ for being a key pillar in the country’s industrial development and recognized the Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute (ALLPI) for its efforts to revive and modernize the leather industry across Africa.
She emphasized the value of collaboration between ministries and organizations, noting that partnerships among LIZ, ALLPI, and the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development are vital for empowering local businesses and promoting inclusive economic growth.
