Footwear and leather businesses in Punjab are getting steady support from the Central Government through multiple schemes that are already in action reports KNN Bureau.
Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada told the Rajya Sabha that the Indian Footwear and Leather Development Programme (IFLDP) with a massive outlay of Rs 1,700 crore (~USD 180 Million) is active till March 2026.
Units in Punjab are covered under this scheme like the rest of the country.
To help leather clusters meet environmental norms the Centre has cleared a project of Rs 28.64 crore (~USD 3 Million) under the Sustainable Technology and Environmental Promotion sub scheme. Out of this around Rs 20.04 crore is coming as central support.
He also confirmed that 60 units in Punjab have already received Rs 27.28 crore under the Integrated Development of Leather Sector (IDLS) sub scheme.
This funding is mainly for upgrading technology modernising operations and increasing capacity.
MSMEs get a better deal under this scheme with 30% assistance for approved machinery plus an extra 5% benefit if the equipment is made in India.
