Spanish Leather Industry Records Mixed Results in First 11 Months of 2025

Data from the first eleven months of 2025 shows that most parts of the Spanish leather trade have slowed down sharply. The only bright spot has been semi processed leather. Everything else is moving in the opposite direction.

According to figures from Spain’s Customs Agency reviewed by LederPiel exports of raw hides from Spain dropped by 12.9% compared to last year. Exports of finished leather also slipped by 2.9%.

Semi processed leather however moved in the opposite direction. Exports in this category grew by 18.8% during the same period.

Even with that growth the overall balance remains negative.

Export turnover from raw hides and finished leather which together brought in around €460 million declined by €25.2 million. Semi processed leather exports generated about €59 million and added €9.3 million in value.

The same pattern is visible on the import side. Spanish tanneries reduced purchases of raw hides from abroad by 1.7%. Imports of finished leather also fell by 2.6%.

At the same time imports of semi processed leather increased by 14.2%.
