Uzbekistan Pushes for International Standards in Leather Industry: LWG Certification Audit Begins

In a step towards advancing its leather and footwear industry, Uzbekistan has initiated a comprehensive audit for enterprises aiming to achieve the prestigious Leather Working Group (LWG) certification. The move follows a recent presidential decree focused on accelerating industry reforms and boosting export potential, signaling Uzbekistan’s commitment to aligning with global environmental standards and enhancing its reputation on the international stage.

The audit, led by LWG experts, is centered on implementing international environmental protocols in leather production to reduce adverse ecological impacts.

By adhering to these global standards, Uzbekistan aims to position its leather industry as a leader in sustainable practices and increase its appeal to environmentally conscious markets worldwide.

As part of the certification process, the experts are currently evaluating Hamkor Nur Savdo LLC, one of Uzbekistan’s leading leather enterprises.

The assessment covers 17 essential criteria, which include:

  • Environmental impact of production processes
  • Workplace conditions for employees
  • Overall product quality

These assessments reflect Uzbekistan’s dedication to not only meeting but exceeding environmental and ethical standards in leather production.

The audit process is expected to span six months, with LWG experts closely monitoring Hamkor Nur Savdo LLC’s production operations throughout this period.

During this time, the team will evaluate current practices, pinpoint areas for improvement, and offer recommendations to address any identified shortcomings.

By the end of this extensive audit, the enterprise will be well-equipped to make the necessary adjustments to qualify for LWG certification.

Securing LWG certification offers numerous benefits to Uzbek leather manufacturers and the industry as a whole. Chief among these advantages are:

  • Enhanced International Competitiveness
  • Increased Investment Opportunities
  • Improved National Image
