Bangladesh’s export industry has achieved remarkable growth, with merchandise exports rising by an impressive 17.72% year-on-year in December. This marks the fourth straight month of positive growth according to provisional data from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
Export earnings for December reached $4.63 billion, a notable increase from the $3.93 billion reported in the same month last year.
This growth is not isolated to December, the first half of the current fiscal year also saw a 12.84% year-on-year increase in total exports, totaling $24.53 billion compared to $21.74 billion during the same period last year.
Leather and leather goods exports grew by 24.19%, totaling $110.90 million.
Industry experts point to multiple factors contributing to this rise in exports. A recovery in major export markets, coupled with the stabilization of labor unrest in Bangladesh, has encouraged the return of orders previously shifted to competitors.
