Huningue, France – Celebrating 100 years of history, the Huningue chemical production site stands as a testament to resilience and innovation. From its inception in 1924 by ‘Produits Geigy SA’ to its current operations under SunChemicals and TFL, the site has seen tremendous growth and transformation.

A Rich History of Evolution

Origins and Early Years Founded in 1924, ‘Produits Geigy SA’ focused on dye production. The site was destroyed during World War II but was rebuilt and expanded, setting the stage for diversification.

Post-War Growth In 1970, the company became Ciba-Geigy SA, expanding into pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and leather tanning. This diversification was crucial for stability and growth.

Transition in the 1990s In 1996, production activities were acquired by Novartis, Clariant, and BASF, leading to the formation of TFL. BASF, now SunChemicals, and TFL have since shared the site, fostering collaboration and innovation.

Centennial Celebration

Friday 7th June, 2024: Institutional Event A breakfast and round-table discussion took place will involve institutional and industrial stakeholders, followed by a facility tour to discuss the site’s impact and future.

Saturday 8th June, 2024: Employee and Family Day Employees and their families will tour the site, enjoy a communal meal, and participate in activities celebrating their contributions.

Modern-Day Operations

TFL’s Role Today, TFL’s Huningue plant focuses on chemical intermediates for leather processing, employing 121 people. It is the second-largest TFL production unit and the only one in France.

Strategic Location Located at the crossroads of Germany and Switzerland, near the Rhine River, the site is a logistical hub for the TFL group.
