Solidaridad and the Leather Sector Skill Council (LSSC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support women in the leather industry. Signed by Mukhtarul Amin, Chairman of LSSC, and Monika Khanna, Country Manager of Solidaridad-India, with Sanjay Kumar, Executive Director of LSSC, in attendance, this agreement aims to empower women workers by enhancing their skills and economic opportunities.

Women in the leather sector often work in informal conditions with low wages and limited training. This MoU will offer specialized training to home-based women workers, especially those in the Kanpur-Unnao leather cluster.

The training focuses on upgrading their skills, increasing productivity, and elevating them from low-wage jobs to more skilled roles within the industry.

The Solidaridad Resource Center was inaugurated by key industry figures, including R.K. Jalan (Chairman, CLE) and Anwarul Haq (President, UPLIA).

The center, equipped with modern machinery, will train women in the leather industry, providing them with industry-aligned skills and certifications upon completion. This initiative aims to boost the well-being and independence of women workers.

A sustainability toolkit was launched to help the Kanpur and Unnao leather clusters reduce environmental impact and adopt sustainable practices.

Prof. Samsher, Vice Chancellor of Harcourt Butler Technical University, introduced a training module focused on pollution prevention, enhancing Solidaridad’s commitment to eco-friendly practices.
