Henan Prosper and Colomer 1792 Complete Acquisition of Conceria Ausonia in Italy

In a strategic move aimed at strengthening its international footprint, Colomer 1792, a Spanish leather tannery based in Les Masies de Voltregà, Barcelona, has acquired Conceria Ausonia, an Italian leather company.

This acquisition, finalized in November 2024, marks a significant milestone for Colomer 1792, a successor to the historic Colomer Munmany tannery, as it expands its operations across Europe and beyond.

Founded in 1946 by Marino Donati, Conceria Ausonia is a family-owned business specializing in vegetable-tanned bovine leather.

Ausonia has since its inception focused on the production of leather for bags, suitcases, belts, leather accessories and accessories for well-known luxury brands and leading brands in the furniture industry.

The company operates out of a cutting-edge 18,000-square-meter production facility established in 2007, which has allowed it to produce up to 70,000 square meters of leather each month.

Ausonia’s commitment to sustainable leather production has earned it a unique place in the market, as its vegetable tanning process offers an eco-friendly alternative to more traditional methods.

In 2023, the company reported revenues of over 9 million euros, and it is set to close 2024 with an estimated turnover of 12 million euros.

With a workforce of approximately 30 employees, Conceria Ausonia is known for supplying leather to high-end fashion brands and furniture manufacturers.

This acquisition is part of Colomer 1792’s broader strategy to expand its reach, particularly in European, American, and Asian markets.

The move also enables Colomer 1792 to increase its production capacity and cater to the growing demand for sustainable leather products.

The tannery has long been an integral part of Henan Prosper, a leading Chinese group. Colomer 1792’s European base in Les Masies de Voltregà serves as a hub for sourcing raw materials from across Europe.

These materials are either shipped for further processing at Henan Prosper’s facilities in China or transformed into semi-finished or finished leather that is directly supplied to European clients.

One of the key projects tied to this acquisition is the establishment of a Research and Development (R&D) center and a state-of-the-art tanning plant on Ausonia’s land.

These new facilities will focus on advancing leather processing techniques, aligning with the growing demand for sustainable production practices in the leather industry.

The R&D center will play a pivotal role in developing innovative tanning solutions and ensuring that Colomer 1792 remains at the forefront of leather manufacturing technology. This expansion aligns with the company’s commitment to sustainability and its long-term growth plans.
