The TDP-led NDA state government is making a major push for industrial development in the western region of Prakasam district, in Andhra Pradesh aiming to create new economic opportunities and employment for local communities.
Social Welfare Minister Dola Sribala Veeranjaneya Swamy, along with Lidcap Chairman Pilli Manikyala Rao and Giddalur MLA M. Ashok Reddy, performed the bhoomi puja for a Leather Park on Saturday the 1st Feb 2025, marking the beginning of an ambitious project.
In addition to the Leather Park, the foundation stone was laid for a new road connecting the Ongole-Nandyala road to the project site, with an estimated cost of Rs 70 lakh (~US$ 85,000).
This infrastructure upgrade is expected to enhance connectivity and facilitate smooth transportation for industries operating in the region.
Speaking at the event, Minister Veeranjaneya Swamy emphasized the importance of industrialization in driving job creation. He stated that the footwear unit within the Leather Park will play a crucial role in employment generation.
Lidcap Chairman P. Manikyala Rao announced that Rs 5.75 crore (~US$700,000) and 25 acres of land have been allocated for the Leather Park project. He further mentioned that allied industries are likely to establish themselves in the area, boosting the local economy and supply chain.
To ensure a stable market for locally manufactured leather products, Rao committed to supplying shoes and leather goods to government departments if required. This move could provide a steady demand for the products manufactured in the Leather Park, fostering sustainable industrial growth.
Giddalur MLA M. Ashok Reddy suggested the establishment of a leather processing unit in the region, pointing out that a significant number of tanners, SCs, and STs reside in the area.
A processing unit would not only generate employment but also enhance value addition within the leather supply chain, benefitting local entrepreneurs and skilled workers.
Several local public representatives and officials attended the programme, showing their support for the development projects. The government’s focus on industrial expansion in Prakasam district is expected to transform the region into a key industrial hub, attracting further investments and generating long-term employment opportunities.
