CSIR Invites Applications for Director Role at Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) Chennai

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has announced a major opportunity for experienced professionals to head some of India’s top scientific institutes. Among the posts up for grabs is the directorship of the CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), Chennai.

CLRI is one of India’s leading institutions focused on leather and leather product research. It works on everything from designing leather goods to developing eco-friendly processing technologies.

The institute is also deeply involved in training, education, and offering solutions to the leather industry. CLRI plays a major role in shaping both national and international leather research standards.

CSIR was established in 1942 and has grown into one of the world’s largest publicly funded R&D organizations. With 37 labs and over 3,500 scientists, CSIR has become a symbol of India’s innovation and scientific strength. It holds more than 2,300 patents globally and publishes around 5,000 research papers each year.

This new opening is for the Director position at CSIR-CLRI and offers a salary between Rs.1,82,200 and Rs.2,24,100 (~$2130 – $2620) a month under Level 15 of the Pay Matrix, plus allowances.

Applicants must be at least 45 years old and no older than 56 and have 16 years of R&D experience. A PhD in Natural Sciences or a Master’s in Engineering is required, and leadership experience in research is essential.

Selected candidates will be appointed for six years or until retirement, whichever comes first. The role also includes several benefits like housing, medical facilities, transportation, and a share of revenue from consultancy and R&D services.

The selected candidate will be responsible for guiding the institute’s mission, building strong research teams, and driving innovation that supports both industry and society.
