Chinese Firms to Invest in Uzbekistan's Leather and Footwear Sector

In a big step forward for Uzbekistan’s leather and footwear industry, China’s Dongguan Xianfeng Shoe Materials Co., Ltd has announced plans to open a footwear production plant in the country.

This news came after official talks in Tashkent between Uzbek officials and two major Chinese companies Dongguan Xianfeng and Hong Kong Ming Feng Leather International Ltd.

Murodzhon Zakhidov, the Deputy Chairman of the Uzcharmsanoat Association, led the discussions. The focus was on building deeper partnerships between the two countries in the leather and footwear sector.

Ming Feng Leather, known for making over 2 million pairs of shoes each year, is interested in buying high-quality finished leather from Uzbekistan. The company believes Uzbek leather could be used in making products for global brands.

The two sides are working on setting up a steady export route. This would give a boost to the local leather industry and help put Uzbekistan on the global leather supply map.

Xianfeng, on the other hand, plans to invest directly in manufacturing. The company will open a new production unit inside one of Uzbekistan’s dedicated leather and footwear zones.

This new factory will make shoes and leather items for both the local market and for export. Xianfeng also wants to localize every stage of production from raw materials to final products which means more jobs for locals, better use of local resources, and access to modern technology.
