Jordan-Uzbekistan Launch Leather and Garment Forum in Amman

The Jordanian-Uzbekistani Leather and Garment Industries Forum opened in Amman on September 17. The event brought together industry leaders and government representatives to explore new opportunities in textile and leather manufacturing.

Ihab Qadri from the Jordan Chamber of Industry said Jordan’s location and trade agreements give direct access to over 1.5 billion customers worldwide.

He explained that global collaboration is the path to sustainable growth and that the Uzbekistani visit follows King Abdullah II’s trip to Uzbekistan which marked a new era in bilateral ties.

He added that Jordan is moving ahead under the Economic Modernization Vision which puts industry at the center of growth.

The sector already produces over $2.5 billion in exports annually and saw 8% growth in the first half of this year.

More than 90,000 skilled people work in this sector which delivers a value-added rate of over 42%.

Qadri said the forum is an initial step toward joint ventures between Uzbek and Jordanian companies.

Plans include integrating textile and raw material supply chains, boosting training, increasing youth and women participation, and holding joint trade missions and exhibitions to open new markets.

Hazem Rahahleh, Director-General of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, said the Uzbek visit is a key step toward closer ties and new trade and investment opportunities.

The forum concluded with optimism that this new partnership will drive growth, create jobs and open doors to larger international markets.
