Ecco Leather’s tannery in Dongen faces an uncertain future five months after a devastating fire hit the site earlier this year. The Ecco leather confirmed that it is currently reviewing the future role of the facility within the Ecco group.

The fire broke out on the night of May 4, 2025, destroying a large part of the 14,000-square-meter warehouse. Around 200 employees were working at the site, which has long been a key part of Ecco’s leather production network.

However, recent developments have raised serious concerns about whether the tannery will ever be rebuilt. Reports suggest that Ecco may close the Dongen facility permanently and relocate its operations, possibly merging them with its existing tannery in China.
