Ramesh Kumar Juneja Takes Charge as Chairman of Council for Leather Exports

Ramesh Kumar Juneja has assumed charge as the new Chairman of the Council for Leather Exports at the 184th meeting of the Committee of Administration held in Chennai on 06 January 2026.

Juneja assumed charge after R K Jalan completed his 2 year term as the Council for Leather Exports chairman.

Juneja is a well known entrepreneur and business strategist with decades of experience across multiple industries. He is known in the leather sector for building businesses with a long term vision and for pushing Indian manufacturing to global markets.

He has been associated with the Council for Leather Exports for over 15 years. He has served as Regional Chairman of the Eastern Region since 2014 and was Vice Chairman of the council from April 2024 under Mr. RK Jalan’s Chairmanship.

During his tenure he played a key role in supporting growth in leather goods and safety wear exports.

Juneja promotes businesses across leather, leather accessories, chemicals and real estate. His ventures include the JC Group, Indotan Chemicals and Juneja Infrastructure.

His journey in the leather industry spans more than 4 decades. As the founder of JC Group he changed the way Indian tanneries worked with global retailers in the 1980s by becoming a nominated supplier of finished leather. Over time the group expanded into products, accessories and footwear for international brands.

Juneja also serves as Vice Chairman of the Indo Italian Chamber of Commerce. He has worked closely with Indian and Italian stakeholders to bring investments into sectors such as railways, infrastructure, food and leather.

He was a founding committee member of the Calcutta Leather Complex Tanners’ Association and served as its President for over 10 years.

During this period he worked with the Government of West Bengal and helped secure an investment of Rs 800 crores (~$90 million) to upgrade the common effluent treatment plant and supporting infrastructure at the Calcutta Leather Complex.

With his appointment as Chairman the leather industry now looks to Mr. Juneja for strong leadership practical decision making and steady growth in exports at a time when global markets are changing fast.
