Muno Launches as Independent Wet End Leather Chemicals Company After Stahl Carve Out

Muno Launches as Independent Wet End Leather Chemicals Company After Stahl Carve Out

Muno announced its official launch on January 5, 2025 as a new independent company after splitting from Stahl focused on next generation products for the wet end leather production process.

Stahl first revealed plans to divest its wet end chemicals division in November 2024 as part of a strategic shift. The company said it wanted to focus on leather finishing chemicals and its specialty coatings business.

At the time private equity firm Syntagma Capital was set to acquire the wet end division. But in November 2025 both sides walked away from the deal citing weak market conditions.

Following the collapse of the transaction Stahl confirmed it would move ahead with the separation anyway. The wet end business was carved out and set up as an independent company now operating under the name Muno.

Now Muno enters the market with a clear goal of pushing innovation forward while keeping sustainability and customer partnerships at the center of its business.

Muno begins operations with a strong global footprint. It has more than 450 professionals supported by 20 laboratories and offices across key markets. Its production sites are located in Italy and India.

The company offers a full range of solutions for the entire wet end process. This includes beamhouse tanning, retanning, fatliquoring, dyes and waterproofing. Muno serves customers in more than 60 countries across footwear automotive upholstery and leather goods.

“Muno builds on a strong industrial legacy but looks firmly to the future. We combine deep technical expertise with a start up mindset to accelerate innovation and unlock new value for our customers and the industry as a whole”

– Xavier Rafols, CEO, Muno

Innovation and sustainability sit at the core of Muno’s strategy. Around 70% of its research and development projects focus on sustainability. About 98% of its product portfolio is ZDHC compliant.

Muno also holds more than 20 proprietary patents and follows strict environmental and regulatory standards. The company says this approach helps reduce environmental impact while making leather production more efficient in a fast changing market.

In conclusion Muno enters the leather chemicals market as a well prepared independent player with scale experience and a strong focus on sustainable innovation across the global wet end value chain.
