Chinese Tanneries Revenue Drops 9.3% to $6.7 Billion from January to November 2025

According to the official data from the China Leather Industry Association, sales revenue of key leather companies (tanneries) fell by 9.3% in the first 11 months compared to last year.

The overall export value of the Chinese leather industry which includes leather, footwear, garments, bags and cases dropped to $75.06 billion, down 10.5% from January to November 2025. Imports also fell to $14.06 billion down 11% in the same period.

If we look at the leather and tanning sector. Sales revenue of tanneries was about 47 billion RMB (~$6.74 billion) from January to November 2025, a 9.3% drop year-on-year.

Raw hides and skins imports totaled 1.286 million tons valued at $1.01 billion, down 4.6% in quantity and 16.5% in value.

Semi-finished leather imports reached 530,000 tons valued at $770 million, down 5.7% in quantity and 17.7% in value.

Finished leather imports also fell, totaling 33,000 tons worth $520 million a decrease of 15.6% in quantity and 16.2% in value.
