According to official data released by the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA), China’s bags and cases industry saw a clear drop in performance in 2025 across domestic sales, exports and imports. The data highlights a slowdown in both domestic business and global trade.
China’s bags and cases industry reported an 8.2% fall in sales revenue among key enterprises compared to the previous year.
Exports of bags and cases also dropped sharply. The total export value stood at $29.89 billion, marking a 13.5% decline year-on-year.
On average, this means China exported around $2.49 billion worth of bags and cases every month in 2025.
At the same time, imports fell by 6.2% to $5.25 billion.
The broader leather industry also followed the same trend. China’s total exports of leather, footwear (leather & non leather), leather garments, bags and cases reached $82.72 billion in 2025. This was a 10.9% drop compared to the previous year.
Imports across these categories also declined. The total import value stood at $15.53 billion, down 10.2% year-on-year.
