A delegation led by Navoiy Region Governor Normat Tursunov and Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Alisher Tukhtaev visited the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) to discuss trade between the two countries. The meeting took place with PTA officials in Pakistan on Thursday, 30 April, 2026, according to multiple local media reports.
PTA Central Chairman Hamid Zahur, along with PTA South Zone Chairman Dr. Danish Aman and members, received the delegation. The Pakistan leather industry body discussed ways to expand bilateral trade with Uzbekistan.
Hamid Zahur said Pakistani tanners can use Uzbekistan’s livestock resources while increasing exports of leather garments, footwear, handbags and gloves to the Uzbek market. He added that stronger engagement between both sides can unlock full trade potential.
He also explained that Uzbekistan can act as a gateway for Pakistan’s leather industry to enter Central Asian Republics and Russia. He stressed that regular interaction and exchange visits between stakeholders are important to grow business ties.
Governor Normat Tursunov shared details about business friendly opportunities in the Navoiy Region. He highlighted the availability of livestock resources that can support Pakistan’s leather sector.
Ambassador Alisher Tukhtaev said 6 weekly flights currently operate from Lahore and Islamabad to Tashkent. He added that plans are in place to start 2 weekly flights from Karachi to Tashkent in 2026 to improve trade and connectivity.
He invited PTA members to visit Uzbekistan and assured full support and facilitation from the Embassy.
