The Bangladesh government has fixed the prices of sacrificial animal hides ahead of Eid-ul-Azha to protect the interests of farmers, madrasas and the country’s leather industry. The decision was announced by the Commerce Minister.
Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir said salted cowhide prices in Dhaka have been fixed at Tk 62 to Tk 67 per square foot, up from last year’s Tk 60 to Tk 65.
Outside Dhaka, prices have been set at Tk 57 to Tk 62 per square foot, compared to last year’s Tk 55 to Tk 60.
The government fixed salted goat skin prices at Tk 25 to Tk 30 per square foot across the country. she-goat skin will cost Tk 22 to Tk 25 per square foot

Muktadir said these prices will apply only to properly salted hides. To reduce wastage during Eid-ul-Azha, the government will distribute salt free of cost worth Tk 17.60 crore through district administrations.
Authorities have also been instructed to ensure timely salt supply to madrasas and designated preservation centres.
Nearly one crore sacrificial animals are expected to be slaughtered during Eid, making hides and skins preservation important for Bangladesh’s export-oriented leather industry.
