Scottish Leather Group Publishes 22nd ESG Report

Scottish Leather Group has published its 2025 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report, marking its 22nd annual disclosure. The Group, which includes Bridge of Weir, Lang and Muirhead brands, has confirmed achieving Net Zero across Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions, delivered without reducing production.

The Group says the milestone demonstrates that carbon can be decoupled from manufacturing, even in an energy intensive industry.

The achievement is the result of SLG’s Journey to Zero, which began in 2003. With Scope 1 and Scope 2 Net Zero now achieved, the Group says its focus turns to Scope 3 emissions, working with customers and across its value chain to further reduce emissions, including Forest, Land and Agriculture (FLAG).

The report tracks SLG’s 5-year plan focused on sustainable innovation and colleague wellbeing. SLG’s Double Materiality Assessment identifies 15 material topics covering environmental, social and governance priorities, including sustainable innovation, circular product design, resource stewardship, climate change, health and safety, equality and inclusion, traceability, ethical sourcing, supplier relationships and product quality.

On the environmental side, SLG confirms alignment with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for near-term 2034 targets without offsetting.

The Group reports 94% of waste is recycled or recovered weekly and is targeting zero process waste to landfill by end of 2025. It also maintains a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) of 8 kg CO₂e/m², reported as the world’s lowest carbon leather.

A new 4MWh solar PV array at the Bridge of Weir site supports peak energy demand and allows livestock grazing on the same land.

On the social front, SLG has achieved 14 consecutive RoSPA Gold Awards and received the President’s Award. Its practices align with International Labour Organisation (ILO) and Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) standards.

The Group continues to focus on gender equality, equal pay, talent development, and employee engagement through surveys and SEDEX SMETA audits.

In governance and supply chain practices, SLG reports 100% traceability of raw materials from farm to finished product and 100% supplier compliance with its Code of Conduct. All raw materials are by-products of the food industry, with animal welfare standards measured through the Animal Protection Index (API).

The Group’s brands include Bridge of Weir (est. 1905), Lang (150+ years) and Muirhead (est. 1840), serving automotive, aviation, transport and luxury sectors.

One SLG innovation has also been nominated for the 2025 Earthshot Prize. Key performance highlights include 100% traceability, 100% supplier compliance, 94% waste recovery, 14 RoSPA Gold Awards, and the 8 kg CO₂e/m² LCA benchmark.
