Turkish manufacturing group İskefe Holding has signed a land allocation agreement for its planned İskefe Bio Campus, a $240 million integrated manufacturing project that will bring leather, collagen, gelatin and other bio-industrial production together on a single site in Bor, Niğde.
The 154,464 square metre site will include approximately 60,000 square metres of enclosed production area, excluding wastewater treatment facilities and other utility buildings. Construction will be carried out in phases over the next 24 months.
Once fully developed, the Bio Campus will bring together 8 complementary production facilities and is expected to create approximately 600 jobs and generate an estimated $180 million in annual export revenue for Türkiye.
Under the İskefe brand, the campus will include a Collagen Refinery and Leather facility and under the Halavet brand, planned facilities will produce Hydrolyzed Collagen Peptides, Pharmaceutical Capsules, Pharmaceutical Bovine Gelatine and Edible Collagen Casings.
The campus will also include dedicated facilities for converting organic by-products into Regeneration Grade and PetPro Grade products.
The key idea behind the Bio Campus is to bring leather and food grade production into 1 connected manufacturing system.
Rather than treating these activities as separate industries, the integrated model will allow a single raw material to move through an interconnected production chain and be transformed into multiple high value products.
According to İskefe, several of the planned product categories are not currently manufactured in Türkiye. The project could therefore help reduce the country’s dependence on imported raw materials for the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetics industries.
Sustainability is also a central part of the Bio Campus concept. The campus will include chemical and biological wastewater treatment facilities designed to treat, recover and reuse water from production processes.
The company also plans to generate electricity from solar energy while integrating water recovery, resource utilisation and by-product conversion into the overall production model.
