A 22 year old tannery worker Manoj died after being exposed to poisonous gas while opening a drum at a Tannery in Saraiya, Kanpur on Saturday morning, according to The Times of India.
According to his wife, Manoj left home around 8 pm on Friday for work. At around 4 am on Saturday, he was exposed to poisonous gas while opening a leather drum, after which his condition deteriorated.
His co workers took him to the Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 2 hours later, at approximately 6 am.
Following his death, Manoj’s family alleged negligence by the tannery owner and management in ensuring worker safety. The family demanded compensation of around ₹20 lakh (~$20,000) and action against those responsible.
Jajmau police station in-charge said the cause of the accident is being investigated and that action will be taken based on the postmortem report.
