Spin360 has launched LCA Simulator a digital platform that allows leather manufacturers to model and compare tanning and re-tanning recipes and assess the potential impact of process changes before implementing them in production.
The platform brings process performance, environmental impacts, costs and leather quality into a single evaluation framework. Users can build recipes operation by operation and modify parameters such as water temperature, water quantities, chemical dosage and running times to create and compare different production scenarios.
LCA Simulator takes into account different lot characteristics, water conditions, process times and chemical products when modelling recipes. It can then assess indicators including carbon and water footprints, production costs, process performance and leather quality.
The platform also allows users to identify hotspots across different inputs and process stages. Tanners can simulate improvement measures such as increasing the renewable share of energy, replacing chemical products with more sustainable alternatives and optimising overnight process times.
By comparing alternative recipes before production changes are implemented, the platform is designed to help technical, sustainability and commercial teams understand the potential effects of different process decisions.
Results can be downloaded from the online platform as spreadsheet reports for further analysis and internal use.
