AIMIM chief and Member of Parliament (MP) Asaduddin Owaisi has urged the Telangana government to intervene over the alleged detention of leather consignments belonging to the states traders in Odisha.
In a letter to the Telangana Chief Secretary Owaisi claimed that the consignments were being intercepted and detained despite traders carrying valid GST documents and transport permits causing heavy financial losses.
Owaisi alleged that the consignments were being systematically targeted after entering Odisha and while travelling towards the West Bengal border. He further claimed that some local law enforcement authorities were acting in collusion with vigilante groups and routinely intercepting trucks carrying the leather consignments.
According to Owaisi criminal allegations were also being made against traders and their legally documented cargo was being falsely described as illegal or contraband.
He warned that the continued disruption could push hundreds of leather traders and workers into financial distress. Owaisi said a large volume of raw stock had accumulated in Hyderabad because of the alleged blockade and fear of further seizures in Odisha.
He cautioned that if the situation continues the accumulated raw stock could deteriorate potentially causing severe losses and threatening the businesses of MSME traders and workers dependent on the leather trade.
Owaisi has sought immediate intervention from the Telangana government to address the issue and help ensure the movement of leather consignments belonging to Hyderabad traders.
