Spain’s leather industry could face a 3 day strike from November 10 to 12 as trade unions UGT FICA and CCOO de Industria take their dispute with employers association ACEXPIEL to mediation over stalled negotiations for a new national collective agreement according to Noticiero Textil.
The unions are seeking improvements in wages and working conditions and want the renewed agreement signed before the end of the year.
They have taken the dispute to Spain’s Interconfederal Mediation and Arbitration Service (SIMA) as they have been unable to reach an agreement with ACEXPIEL.
The move follows an unsuccessful negotiating meeting in mid October where ACEXPIEL presented its latest proposal.
The unions see mediation as the last opportunity to reach an agreement. However, they have warned that a strike will take place from November 10 to 12 if the talks fail.
