Assomac and ACCAL, the Latin American Association of Footwear and Related Chambers (Asociación de Cámaras de Calzado de Latinoamérica), an organisation representing the footwear industry across Latin America have signed a 3 year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 16, 2026 to strengthen cooperation between Italian technology companies and the Latin American footwear industry during SIMAC Tanning Tech in Milan.
The agreement covers 12 Latin American countries, including the Mercosur region and focuses on creating new opportunities for technology cooperation, business and investment between the two markets.
Latin America represents a major footwear manufacturing market with production of around 1.5 billion pairs and more than 30,000 factories across the region. Assomac said the sector’s development is creating demand for advanced technologies and machinery.
The agreement aims to help Italian technology companies better understand the requirements of Latin American manufacturers while creating opportunities for B2B partnerships and investment.
As part of the initiative, 65 delegates from Latin America participated in activities in Italy through the Italian Trade Agency, providing an opportunity for companies and industry representatives to meet and discuss potential cooperation.
Mexico will be the next focus of the initiative through ANPIC in October with further activities planned in Colombia and Argentina.
