Brazil’s leather exports recorded their strongest monthly performance of 2026 in June, with export value increasing 12.1% YoY to $93.4 million, according to data from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (SECEX), compiled by the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB). Export volumes also increased compared to both June 2025 and May 2026.
Brazil exported $93.4 million worth of hides and skins in June 2026, compared to $83.3 million in June 2025. Compared to May 2026, when exports totaled $89.4 million, shipments increased by 4.4%.
In terms of volume, exports reached 14.6 million square metres and 49.8 thousand tonnes during the month.
Compared to June last year, exported area increased 9.0%, while exported weight rose 23.7%. Compared to May 2026, exported area grew 5.3% and exported weight increased 1.0%, indicating stronger shipment activity during the month.
When it comes to export destinations, China remained Brazil’s largest leather export market in June, with exports to China (excluding Hong Kong) estimated at approximately $32.0 million, while exports to China including Hong Kong reached around $33.3 million during the month.
The United States remained the second largest destination with exports of approximately $13.4 million, followed by Vietnam at $9.7 million and Italy at $7.6 million.
Among other important destinations, exports to Nigeria totaled approximately $5.1 million, followed by Mexico at $4.8 million and South Korea at $3.6 million.
India ranked in 17th place with about $1.23 million worth of exports.
When it comes to type of Leather, Finished leather continued to dominate Brazil’s export basket in June, generating approximately $42.6 million in export revenue.
Wet blue exports reached around $19.8 million, while crust leather exports totaled approximately $12.5 million.
Exports of wet blue split amounted to approximately $10.9 million, while salted hides contributed around $6.1 million during the month.
According to CICB, June 2026 was the best performing month of 2026 compared with the same month last year, recording growth across all major export indicators, including export value, shipped area and exported weight. The organisation said the stronger June performance reflects improved shipment activity, although the first half results continued to remain below the levels recorded during the same period of 2025.
