CSIR CLRI Hosts Key Stakeholder Meeting to Boost Sustainable Leather Practices

On April 8, 2025, CSIR – Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) hosted an important meeting with key players from the leather tanning industry in Vellore.

The meeting was attended by representatives from AISTHMA, Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs), and tanners managing their own Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs).

It was held to lay the groundwork for a series of workshops focused on pollution control and sustainability in the leather sector.

Titled “Workshop on Various Process Control Measures for Minimizing Pollution from Tanneries Towards Sustainability of Leather Sector”, the sessions aim to promote cleaner technologies and better environmental practices.

The workshops are scheduled to be held across three major leather hubs — Ambur, Ranipet, and Vaniyambadi — where many tanneries operate.
