Do Consumers Truly Understand What Sustainability Means? ALFA Ambassador's Meet at IILF 2025 Raises Key Questions

The ALFA Ambassador’s Meet 2025 was one of the standout events at the India International Leather Fair (IILF) 2025 in Chennai. Organized by the AC Tech Association of Leather & Footwear Alumni (ALFA), the gathering took place on February 2, 2025, from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the Chennai Trade Center.

This year’s event featured the prestigious Orator Award Lecture, delivered by Dr. K. J. Sreeram, Director of CSIR – Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI). His lecture, titled “An R&D Led Growth for Sustainable Development of the Leather Sector,” took attendees on a 40-minute deep dive into the future of sustainability in the leather industry.

Dr. Sreeram emphasized that leather remains one of the most sustainable materials available today. He raised a thought-provoking question:

“Do consumers really know what sustainable means?”

The event was graced by Mr. M Abdul Wahab, Regional Chairman (South) of the Council for Leather Exports (CLE) and Director of K H Exports India Pvt Ltd, who attended as the Chief Guest.

Additionally, Dr. T. Ramasami, a Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awardee, former Secretary of the Department of Science & Technology, India, and former Director of CSIR-CLRI, also participated as a special guest.

Followed by a networking sessions with the alumni of the department of leather technology, Anna University and leather industry professionals.
