Egypt is looking to attract more Indian industrial investment and expand the presence of Indian companies in its manufacturing sector with a focus on technology transfer, local production and stronger domestic supply chains.

Industry Minister Khaled Hashem outlined the plans during a meeting with representatives of major Indian companies and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in Jaipur, following his participation in the BRICS Industry Ministers Meeting on August 7-8, 2026.

The meeting brought together representatives from TCI Sanmar, SVC Industries, Ocior, Sterlite, ITC and Reliance Industries, along with Egyptian companies operating in sectors including leather, packaging, food and chemicals.

Hashem said Egypt wants to move beyond a traditional trade relationship with India and encourage more Indian companies to establish manufacturing operations in the country.

The aim is to increase local content, transfer technology, develop domestic supply chains and use Egypt as a production and export base for African and Middle Eastern markets.

He pointed to existing Indian investments in Egypt, particularly TCI Sanmar’s chemicals operations, as an example of how Indian companies can serve both the Egyptian market and export destinations from the country.

The Egyptian government also plans to establish a project-specific follow-up mechanism for the investment opportunities discussed. The mechanism will track each project’s requirements, the relevant government authority, required actions and implementation timelines.

The ministry said it will also work with Indian companies already operating in Egypt to identify expansion opportunities and increase local value addition, while helping prospective investors identify suitable industrial locations, local partners and investment structures.
