Fire Destroys Leather Stock at Jajmau Tannery as Short Circuit Sparks Blaze

A fire broke out on April 26th, Saturday morning at a tannery in the Wajidpur area, which falls under the Jajmau police limits of the city. The incident caused panic among workers and nearby residents.

According to officials, the fire started in the spray department located in the third section of the tannery. A short circuit in the exhaust system is believed to have caused the flames.

Two fire engines reached the scene quickly after being alerted. It took them about an hour to control the fire. While no injuries were reported, a large amount of leather stored in the section was completely destroyed.

Local resident Naseem Ahmed, who owns the tannery, said the fire caused major structural damage to the spray department.

“The electrical wiring in the spray department appeared old and worn out. Further investigations are underway regarding the cause of the short circuit,”

Deepak Sharma, Chief Fire Officer

The quick response of the fire department helped stop the fire from spreading to other areas of the factory.

The exact value of the damage is still being calculated, but the tannery is expected to remain closed until safety checks and repairs are completed.
