Italian Automotive Leather Manufacturer Pasubio Invests $13 Million in Mexico Creating 540 Jobs

The Italian premium automotive leather manufacturer Pasubio has officially opened a new manufacturing plant in León, Guanajuato, Mexico investing $13 million. This strategic move is expected to create 540 jobs and further strengthen Guanajuato’s position as a key hub for the automotive supply chain.

Pasubio’s new facility will focus on processing leather for high-end vehicle interiors, supplying luxury brands such as BMW, Maserati, Volkswagen, Skoda, and Stellantis.

The company, which has been in operation since 1959, already runs production plants in Italy, Germany, Serbia, and South Africa. By establishing this plant in León, Pasubio aims to enhance its presence in the North American automotive market.

During the inauguration ceremony, Jorge Daniel Jiménez Lona, Secretary of Government, and Claudia Cristina Villaseñor Aguilar, Secretary of Economy, welcomed Pasubio’s expansion into the region.

They emphasized that Guanajuato offers world-class infrastructure and a skilled workforce, making it an ideal location for global companies seeking to expand their operations.

“It is something we need to strengthen—inaugurations and investments. This week and last week, we already had two inaugurations, and now, with this Italian company, more than 540 jobs will be created. This company specializes in leather tanning, and the big news is that they are coming to establish the ‘local for local’ approach.”

Claudia Cristina Villaseñor Aguilar, Secretary of Economy

Over the past year, Guanajuato has attracted more than $2 billion in foreign investments, resulting in the creation of over 4,300 jobs. This continuous flow of investment has reinforced the state’s reputation as one of the most competitive automotive clusters in the Americas.

Claudia Cristina Villaseñor Aguilar highlighted that Guanajuato’s strong network of suppliers and its tradition in leather processing make it an attractive destination for companies like Pasubio. She also noted that nearshoring opportunities have played a crucial role in bringing global brands to Mexico.

León has long been known for its rich tradition in leather production, and Pasubio’s decision to establish a plant in the city underscores the evolution of the leather industry. While the region has historically been a leader in footwear and leather goods, Pasubio’s investment demonstrates that Mexican leather can also meet the rigorous standards of the global automotive industry.
