Catalonia based leather company Novicuir has laid the foundation stone for a new industrial facility in Santa Margarida de Montbui, Anoia, Spain. The €18 million investment will support the company’s expansion in the leather sector and is expected to create around 20 new jobs.
The new facility, located at the Plans de la Tossa Industrial Park, will cover approximately 12,000 square metres. The plant will manage the process from the collection of hides and skins at slaughterhouses, mainly in Catalonia, through preparation for the next stages of turning the raw hides and skins into leather
The project has received support from ACCIÓ, the Catalan Government’s agency for business competitiveness, through a €300,000 grant under its High Business Impact Aid programme.
The facility has been designed to improve quality control, increase production sustainability and ensure full traceability of raw hides and skins throughout the supply chain.
As part of the project, a new wastewater collector will also be developed between the Plans de la Tossa Industrial Park and the local wastewater treatment plant. The infrastructure will initially support Novicuir’s operations and could enable further industrial investments in the region, including future projects in the leather sector.
