Pakistan Tanners Association elects new office bearers for 2024-2026

In a significant development for the leather industry in Pakistan, the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) has elected its new office bearers for the term 2024-2026.

The elections, held recently, saw Mr. Hamid Arshad Zahur of M/s. Noor Leather (Pvt) Ltd., Karachi, elected unopposed as the Central Chairman of the prestigious association. His leadership is expected to steer the industry through both challenges and opportunities in the coming years.

Joining him in the leadership team, Sheikh Abid Hussain of M/s. Prime Tanning Industries (Pvt) Ltd., Lahore, was elected unopposed as the Senior Vice Chairman. Meanwhile, Mr. Danish Aman from M/s. Hafiz Enterprises, Karachi, took the position of Vice Chairman of the Central Executive Committee (CEC), also without contest.

This leadership change is seen as an essential step for the Pakistan Tanners Association, which plays a pivotal role in representing the country’s leather industry on both national and international stages.

These new office bearers are expected to bring fresh perspectives and strategies to support Pakistan’s leather exports, which have been a significant contributor to the country’s economy.

In addition to the top leadership, the members of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) for the same term were also elected, bringing together an array of experienced professionals from various firms across Pakistan’s key leather manufacturing regions.

These CEC members bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise from various sectors within the leather industry, ensuring a balanced representation of both regional and national interests.

Their collective input will be crucial as the PTA tackles issues such as export growth, global competition, and sustainability challenges that the industry faces.

The Road Ahead for the PTA

The leather industry is one of Pakistan’s most vital sectors, contributing significantly to the country’s export revenues.

However, the industry has been facing challenges in recent years, including fluctuating global demand, increasing competition, and environmental regulations.

The PTA, under the leadership of Mr. Hamid Arshad Zahur and his team, is set to play a proactive role in negotiating with both the government and international trade partners to secure favorable conditions for Pakistani tanners. This includes advocating for policies that support the growth of leather exports and improve the industry’s competitiveness on the global stage.
