The Fall Winter 2025/26 Leather Collection in Portugal: Innovating Trends and Sustainable Practices

As the world of fashion continuously evolves, Portugal stands at the forefront with the Fall Winter 2025/26 Leather Collection, currently in the midst of its second planning phase. This initiative, driven by the PT Leather InDesign project, highlights Portugal’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and craftsmanship in the leather industry.

On April 10, Collection Coordinator João Carvalho unveiled the upcoming season’s fashion trends, setting the stage for participating companies to deliver their meticulously crafted leathers to the Centre for the Technological Innovation of the Footwear Industry (CTIC). This phase is crucial as it lays the groundwork for what promises to be a revolutionary collection, reflecting the latest in fashion and design.

The PT Leather InDesign project is a collaborative effort involving several esteemed Portuguese leather manufacturers. These companies have been selected for their expertise, innovation, and commitment to quality. Each company delivers their leathers, complete with technical sheets, ensuring seamless identification and order placement through the PT Leather InDesign Trend Book. This trend book, available in both physical and online versions, serves as a comprehensive guide to the latest trends and materials.

The following companies are integral to this project:

  • Castro & Filhos, Lda.
  • CHEMPRO – Comércio de Produtos Químicos, Lda.
  • CURPATEX – Química, Lda.
  • Curtumes Aveneda, Lda.
  • Curtumes Ibéria, S.A.
  • Fábrica de Curtumes Rutra, Lda.
  • INDUCOL – Industria de Peletaria Cruz Costa, S.A.
  • INDUTAN – Comércio e Indústria de Peles, S.A.
  • JC Indústria de Curtumes, Lda.
  • João Angelino Correia, Sucrs., Lda.
  • PIONIER – Peles, Lda.
  • SIMACA, Lda.

These companies represent the pinnacle of Portuguese leather craftsmanship, each bringing unique elements to the table, from innovative chemical treatments to traditional tanning techniques.

Once the leathers are delivered, the next phase involves a meticulous selection process. This stage is carried out by trainers and trainees from the Portuguese Vocational Training Centre for the Footwear Industry (CFPIC) alongside guest designers. These professionals are tasked with selecting the finest leathers that best match their prototypes and collections.

The invited designers come from diverse fields where leather is a key material, including footwear, leather goods, clothing, furniture, and various alternative applications. Their expertise ensures that the selected leathers are not only high quality but also versatile and innovative, catering to a wide range of design needs.

As the project progresses, the Portuguese Association of the Leather Industry (APIC) will provide further updates on the developments. One of the most anticipated aspects is the unveiling of the leather trend book, which is unique in its comprehensive approach. It is the only trend book worldwide that offers a complete package of trends, finished leathers, and leather article prototypes, providing an invaluable resource for designers and manufacturers alike.

This initiative underscores Portugal’s leadership in the leather industry, highlighting its ability to blend tradition with innovation. The PT Leather InDesign project not only showcases the country’s craftsmanship but also its forward-thinking approach to sustainable and trendsetting design.

One of the standout features of the Fall Winter 2025/26 Leather Collection is its emphasis on sustainability. The participating companies are not only focused on creating beautiful and high-quality leathers but also on ensuring that their production processes are environmentally friendly.

The Fall Winter 2025/26 Leather Collection is more than just a showcase of Portugal’s leather craftsmanship; it is a testament to the country’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and quality. Through the PT Leather InDesign project, Portugal is setting new standards in the leather industry, blending traditional techniques with modern advancements.

As the project progresses, it will continue to provide valuable insights and innovations that will shape the future of leather design and production. With its emphasis on sustainable practices and cutting-edge technology, the Fall Winter 2025/26 Leather Collection is set to make a significant impact on the global fashion industry, reinforcing Portugal’s position as a leader in leather craftsmanship.
